merry belated chrismakwanzakkuh, happy soon-to-be new year

hope y'all had a nice christmas and have a swell new year's celebration! it was my first christmas away from home, but after thinking about it, i think i did skip christmas the year i rescued ember when she was still a secret. yep, she was a secret for a few months til a co-worker accidentally ratted me out on the phone to my mom when he told her i was 'out walking the dog'. i was trying to spare myself the whole 'responsibility' speech. i can't say christmas was exciting, it took all i had to constantly remind myself of the time of year. it was probably the lack of snow, lack of dough (as in money), and other non-christmassy factors that turned this holiday season into a fleeting thought and a completely stress free one at that. it was awesome. next year i'll get all domesticated and bake cookies, decorate, make gifts.. the uge.

i will say, these fellas, tom and jerry, got me in the holiday spirit for about 20 minutes or so. make sure if you're in the bay area around christmas to check out their house (or just pretend you were a part of it and check my flickr). it should not be missed. and that "tree" supposedly started as a houseplant.

so what did we do for this christmas? woke up late (8 am), watched zach galifianakis' stand up at the purple onion which turned into watching out cold, then drove down to half moon bay, of course.

my job surprised me 2.5 weeks ago that we would be closed from dec. 23 - jan. 4th, so i'm on a never before had vacation. ah, the non-retail life. i can't say it's been an exciting one but reading books and walking around the city aimlessly is pretty fun. every day i wake up and exclaim that i want to go shopping so we end up in some neighborhood, usually downtown, walk around for four or five hours, eat, and go home empty handed where i plop back down on the couch and stick my nose back in my book. i just read "the lovely bones" so we can go see the movie, but now i have to wait 'til mike reads it.

tonight we're going to see grass widow who i found on a comp in an old issue of "Yeti". i grabbed it for the vivian girls interview and the accompanying comp without realllly looking through issue. not til later when i noticed they were interviewing the old drummer did i realize i bought a back issue from last year. i wasn't totally disappointed since i am a fan of frankie rose and i found out about grass widow who is apparently from SF and playing the knockout in the mission tonight. i'm hoping i can talk mike into burritos before hand.
